Founded in 1978, ALGWA Tasmania supports and encourages women’s participation in Local Government as elected members and as council officers.

Join us, as we work together with our colleagues Australia-wide to connect, mentor, support and advocate for women in local government in Tasmania. Our committee holds member meetings at least four times a year, including the Annual General Meeting, providing a forum for open healthy discussion, knowledge sharing, networking, mentoring and professional development opportunities.

We are active members of the Australian Local Government Women’s Association, contributing to national mentoring, professional learning, connection and advocacy for the sector and women’s equal participation in all aspects of local government. Created in October 1951 at a meeting chaired by Dame Enid Lyons, in 2026 we are celebrating ALGWA’s 75th year.

The original Tasmanian Branch logo was in use until 2024 when our national ‘map’ logo was adopted.
