Congratulations to new independent member of the Legislative Council, Clare Glade-Wright, on her election as the member for Huon.

Clare was elected to Kingborough Council in July 2021 and then elected Deputy Mayor in November 2022, one of a record 18 female deputy mayors elected across Tasmania’s 29 councils at that time.
As an MLC, Clare now joins a number of other women MPs in the Tasmanian parliament with a local government background, including Bridget Archer MHA, Meg Brown MHA, Helen Burnet MHA, Anita Dow MHA, Janie Finlay MHA, Jess Greene MHA, Kristy Johnston MLC and Bec Thomas MLC.
Clare’s election brings the number of women MLCs to 9 in the 15 member chamber.
Kingborough Councillors will elect a new deputy mayor who will then act as mayor in place of Mayor Paula Wriedt, our former ALGWA Tas secretary, who is taking up a full time role as CEO of TasCOSS.
